Sentience?

Post  Terry on Tue Apr 10, 2012 4:50 pm

should they be? My immediate reaction is yes, but that's just because i'm thinking of all the other fantasy worlds where they are.

What if only the really old, and intelligent Wyrms were developed enough to be considered sentient? (maybe, 200+ years?)

But that's just like other fantasy worlds. Smaug was ancient, and he was also sentient - and even had a sense of humor befitting his age.

I think that Dragons could be much more intelligent than other animals, but not quite crossing the line of sentience. I actually view creating Dragons as non-sentient as quite a challenge, as no one has really done it before. It's definitely different, but that's what we're aiming for, aren't we?

Thinking about this today, I imagine the Wyrms to have a level of awareness somewhat on par with cats or dogs. Their mental capabilities would be advance enough to understand friendship, protection, and a few simple commands. Other than that, I think we should have these guys operate on instinct.

Agreed?
